Coda Music Technology, Inc. Announces
Music Scanning Partnership
Eden Prairie, MN, September 30, 1998 - - Coda Music Technology, Inc.
(NASDAQ:COMT) announced today that it has signed an agreement with Musitek,=
the
leader in music scanning technologies. Musitek, based in Ojai, California,
develops and markets the popular MidiScan=AE product for Windows=AE=
computers which
allows users to translate scanned music images into intelligent music data=
that
can be transposed, edited and even performed by MIDI-equipped musical
instruments.
The agreement allows Coda access to proprietary file structure information=
so
that Coda=92s Finale=AE product, the world=92s best-selling music notation=
software,
can directly import MidiScan@-----. Finale users can thus=
easily
use MidiScan to interpret scanned musical images and then bring them into
Finale to make desired changes and, in general, prepare the music for
professional publishing, archiving and electronic commerce over the=
Internet.
"This is an important relationship for many of our Finale customers," stated
John Paulson, Coda Chairman and CEO, "but it is of even greater significance=
to
music publishers. Even though they have used Finale for their engraving for
many years, they nonetheless have an enormous backlog of sheet music=
engraved
in the old fashion methods used before computers. Importing scanned data=
from
MidiScan into Finale will be less expensive than inputting the data=
manually.
Thus this relationship is consistent with Coda=92s long range strategy of=
having
Finale provide all the solutions publishers need so that they can=
standardize
on Finale for all their product development. As publishers create more and=
more
sheet music in Finale, Finale=92s position as the standard for the=
electronic
commerce of sheet music via the Internet is strengthened."
"It is only natural that Finale connect with MidiScan", added Christopher
Newell, Musitek CEO. "The leading music notation technology and the leading
music scanning technology should be wedded to the benefit of publishers,
composers and arrangers. It@-----."
"Once music is in the Finale file format", explained Ron Raup, Coda=
President
and COO, "it is ready for sale over the Internet and can be customized for
individual customers. For example, you may want to play a particular song,=
but
it@-----. If the=
music is
in the Finale file format, you can specify the song to be printed in the key=
of
F, which is much easier for you to play. We believe this added value Finale
provides, in combination with the frictionless environment of the Internet,
will grow the overall market for sheet music."
Coda Music Technology, Inc. develops and markets proprietary music=
technology
products, including Finale music notation software products and the=
SmartMusic
Intelligent Accompaniment products, a comprehensive system that makes
practicing music fun and productive.
