I have heard some outstanding high school bands in Texas that present
quite a varied palette of musical colors on the field, both dynamically
and instrumentally. The arrangements many of these bands perform are
technically challenging and come from standard orchestral literature,
and the directors spend a lot of time getting the right balance and
blend from the instruments.

Also, if I am not mistaken, in Texas at the UIL marching contests, 75%
of the judging score is related to the playing of the music and 25% to
the marching and other elements.
