sure everyone learns differently.......it all depends on your school
situation.....
at mine.......everyone worked there music for hours each night on their
own....until it was memorized....if not...the upperclassmen really
gotcha......it was expected of us......which i think its good.......i
college i played cymbals.....only because there were already over 30
clarinets and i wanted to try something different.....we did a new show
each week.......as a cymbal line we would get our music on
monday.....sometimes friday....we worked mucho time and got it all
memorized.....*now we were basically the only section to have all of it
memorized*.......but it really made a difference in how fast we learned
drill and when we were refining mvmnts everyone else was still trying to
just make it to their set...........

sure some people have a harder time memorizing........but its not becuz
they CANT.....its becuz theyve preconditioned themselves that becuz their
older or whatever that its more difficult......so the mind has to first get
past that....which gives us the perception that it takes longer.......my
mom has memorized math formulas for new aspects of her job.........ive met
people at our alumni band that get the music the night b4 and have it
memorized by game time the next........
so i dont believe that CANT or UNABLE is a option.........life is a
psychological game.........and your subconscious can be very strong at
prohibiting you if it wants to be............

my college director always said.....PERCEPTION IS REALITY.......if you
believe you can do then you will..........if you allow the subconscious to
hold back it will............thats where reverse psychology got
started........trying to undo what the subs. built up.....

jacque....
