Hi --

Now that my kids are at the marching band age, I'm finding that not
everyone marches the same way I did, oh-so-many-years ago: we, too, had a
new show every 2 weeks, with 4 - 6 tunes every show. We marked our music
*lightly!* in pencil so as not to miss the turns (and to know which way
to go), and the only ones who had to memorize music were the flutes.

As to noticing what everyone else was doing and staying in line, between
paying attention to the pulse and developing good peripheral vision we
managed pretty well. And of course, practice: band was the last period of
the day, and we stayed on the field until after 4pm. All in all, the
shows went well. This was in the north Chicago area -- and our school
didn't have anything to do with the drum&bugle corps thing.
