Erin, I first heard the Goodman recording in college and absolutely
flipped for it; I love the piece, and the beginning just sounds like he's
absolutely weeping (quietly and with dignity, but he gets the point across).
I've never heard the Schifrin recording, but I had an ongoing debate with a
colleague who liked the Stolzman recording better. A lovely performance-I
have it on disc-but VERY clean, almost too clean, sanitary, you know?
Everything in check. What do you think? Just doesn't move me quite like
Goodman's.
