In the 70's I studied with Al Zetzer (another fine old gentleman) bass
clarinetist with the Cleveland Orchestra. He also maintained that if you
couldn't find bass clarinet reeds that worked for you, try tenor sax reeds.

For what it's worth, the only reeds that I really use on my bass clar are
Vandoren's 3 1/2.
