We used to learn 4 "base" shows a year, and replace one or two songs out of each "base" shows every week, including matching drill. Then again, our marching band director at the time wrote his own drill, wrote his own charts, and trained the grad students how to do it also. Different era. Most high schools and a lot of college marching band directors use premade charts and use a computer to generate drill, so, you'ld think they would have more time to do more shows. I guess they just don't push the kids as much anymore.

We also memorized everything, including the music we got Monday to play on Friday/Saturday, every week. Quite a lot of work, but the results were great! :-)

Also, way back in the "olden days," our band learned a new show every week (or every 2 weeks, sometimes), and we didn't always memorize every single piece, since we would get it on Monday to play on Friday. Anyone else remember this?
