Let me put it this way, FWIW....

I am an amateur sax/clarinet/flute player who keeps all
instruments on stands, not in cases, between playings. (I'm
lucky enough to have a room of my own....)

After 7-10 years (depending on when I bought the instrument),
I've had no cracks and no necessity for repadding. This has
been an unscientific study.....
