Why not? They are approximately the same width, but are a little shorter than the clarinet reeds. They have worked great for my dixieland gigs, but were not the sound I wanted for my blues playing. A different ligature might have to be used, (like a one screw ligature, because a two screw ligature might not hold the reed stable - different pressure/restraint points.) I would be hesitant to use them for legit playing (especially since I have lots of good clarinet reeds for that,) but that wasn't related to the discussion on finding different possibilities relating to mouthpiece/reed/ligature setups for clarinets and clarinet models for dixieland jazz clarinet playing.

Have you tried them? A JAVA reed for soprano sax is a lot more stable for certain types of jazz playing than just getting a smaller number (softer) reed. Now THAT would be a bad fit. Ever done jazz on a soft reed? Pitch is horrible.

Do you *PLAY* jazz? Have you ever tried a soprano sax reed on clarinet? Since I happen to play both, I have access to a lot of different reeds to experiment, but the soprano sax reed is something I have used for years for dixieland jazz work. Don't dispute a suggestion unless you have working knowledge of the suggested idea, i.e. have DONE it.

By the way, everything is as individual as the player (which should go without saying.) I personally HATE using tenor sax reeds on bass clarinet, because I have problems playing the lowest and highest notes in tune. Next time someone makes a suggestion that you have no experience with, AT LEAST TRY IT, so you could at least say "This doesn't work for me, and this is why." Then it will be two preferences being discussed, and not "I believe they are the wrong size," which is hear-say.
