Actually, I once asked someone at Buffet a question about buying
something non-standard, and he said, "*Anything* is possible." So
the way to find out whether they'll sell you just a bottom joint, and
what the price would be, is (unsurprisingly:-) to ask them.

With regard to using the normal A top joint with the basset bottom
joint, I thought he said that someone else found their normal A joint
worked better? And that that person knew other people who found so too?

I haven't tried, or needed to try, but if I did, *I'd* be the one who
decided whether it worked or not. After all, the only way Buffet know
what works is by asking people like you and me.
