In my experience, not a very good idea. Soon, the swab will be so bunched
up that it will be like pulling a string through the instrument. It will
go through almost without touching most of the bore. If you leave it
folded in its widest possible configuration, it will do a better job of
pressing against the interior walls of the instrument, and therefore of
removing moisture. Naturally, you do have to be careful that it is fully
unfolded lengthwise before trying to pull it through the bore.
