Obviously, opinion varies on this issue. I seriously doubt that there is
any significant difference in the wood Selmer uses/used vs. that which
Buffet or anyone else uses, so that should not be the reason for the
difference. The importance of bore oiling may be old wive's tale, or it
just might be wisdom of the ages. Personally, I occasionally do it, but I
don't get paranoid if I don't get around to it for a long while. I do
notice, though, that the hairline crack in the barrel of my old Rene Dumont
disappears after I oil it. I must assume at least SOME oil is soaking in!
