I have a bad story to tell about swabs getting stuck. Fortunately, it
didn't happen to me. There is only one other male clarinetist in our
school. He's pretty creative; likes making his own rings and stuff out
of beads. One day he got a CRAZY idea to make a swab for his wooden B&H
The Edgware clarinet out of leather. DOH!!! Needless to say it got
stuck. He tried pushing it out the other end. It just would't budge.
He consulted his shop teacher and he decided to try to drill it out.
*cringe* I will skip the gory details, but obviously the lower joint
now has some LARGE unrepairable cracks through it. I beleive three -
one about 3/4 the length of the lower joint. He showed it to me the
other day. I told him it's a good decoration. It was the one his dad
played on, too. He shouldn't have been marching with a wood clarinet,
anyway.
