Subj: [kl] SWAB GOT STUCK !

Swab got stuck !

Yesterday a pupil phoned in great PANIC.
His swab got stuck in the clarinet.

This happens sometimes. The top joint has a little tube sticking into it
and it's easy to get a swab stuck there.

But NO! This swab got stuck in the lower joint. I guess that the more
he tried to pull it through, it got embedded more.

I asked him to come over and finally after a lot of trying, got it out.
BUT I had to put a long screw driver down from the top and gently tap it
with a hammer.

The piece that came out was so crumpled you wouldn't believe it.

The lesson: Keep the swabs flattened out when you put them in the case.
AND make sure that it's loose when you are going to pull it through.
Imagine that happening at a concert!

ACTUALLY IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO IRON THE SWAB FROM TIME TO TIME, YOU GET
MORE SWABBING SURFACE.

I think this was mentioned somewhere, but it might be a good idea to sew
an extra piece of cloth tape on the tail part of the swab. This way, you
might pull it out from the bottom part if it gets stuck.
