I am new to this list, so although the subject may have been worked over
before, I have never seen a discussion of the best material to make into
a swab. We all know it should be absorbent, soft, fast to dry, and
non-linty. Has anyone done any research comparing, say, chamois, silk,
and cotton? How about personal experience? Most of the professionals I
see either on stage or in town use silk ones. The little felty
squares-on-a-rope that the music stores sell are a travesty and should
never be allowed!
