I am absolutely stunned by the news of the death of my good friend
and colleague Alan Balter. I had the great honor and pleasure to play
with him on many, many occasions and he was an artist of incomparable
excellence.

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying with him in Memphis on
the occasion of a drive across the US several years ago and we
had been in contact every now and then since that time.

I chatted with Dave Weber only a few months ago and told him how
well his former pupil, Alan, was still playing.

This is extremely distressing news and I am very saddened to hear it.
