Would it be better to get a clarinet with unstained wood? Could the reality
be that the wood is freer of defects because it was chosen with the thought
that the wood was not going to be covered up with stain, so the wood had to be
at least cosmetically flaw free? Maybe that is the reason The Prestige and the
Opus are UNSTAINED wood...go figure.

Dear Ms Abraham,

We stained the wood at Buffet for the R13 because at the time the R13 came out
it was a Big deal to be able to have stained instrument, for the aspect very
dark and black it gives. The Musiciens liked it a lot, and we decide to keep
that now because of the Tradition. For your information we use good quality
wood for all instrument we make, making instrument is a pation and you have to
spend a lot of time learning and perfect your technique, it is like playing
you have to practice to reach the perfection ( Personnaly I don't know if you
reach the perfection one day, but it is a goal every one want to reach) For
the R13 and RC model we are using the side of the center of the tree wich is
less dense than the center, it will make the wood respond quicker and so far
it is what most of the player like. The Prestige line come with the wood we
take from the center of the tree wich is denser and will have to have little
bit more air pressure to respons than the less dense wood. The rest is the
taste of the player and for that everyone is different and it is what make
this world so attractive to me. We don't use less quality wood at Buffet and I
doubt that any other compagnies use less quality wood.

Musically Yours
