Help with some of the more difficult intervals:
-- Minor 3rd, Descending--
I'm surprised nobody mentioned the first two notes of the
Mozart Clarinet Concerto theme as a reference for the de-
scending minor 3rd. That's how *I* always recognize it,
anyway.
-- Tritone, Ascending and Descending --
For the ascending tritone: "Maria" from Bernstein's
West Side Story. Also "Cool" from the same musical,
which can also be used for the *descending* tritone
a few more intervals into the main motif.
-- Minor 6th, Descending --
Theme from Love Story.
-- Major 6th, Ascending --
Theme from movie St. Elmo's Fire
(not necessarily familiar to everybody, true).
Also: the lyrics "way up high..." from Over
the Rainbow outline an ascending major 6th.
-- Octave, Ascending --
Theme from original Star Trek TV series,
second ascending interval after the asc-
ending minor 7th. But really, Over the
Rainbow works even better for me.
