Several years back, somewhere in Florida, I was scheduled to perform the
Rossini "Intro, Theme and Variations" with wind ensemble. I was on just before
the intermission. Ten minutes before the concert downbeat I discovered that
my register pad was missing. GONE. Nobody home.

Remembering a trick that I read about somewhere (Anybody?), I stole a stick of
gum from the tubist and bummed a ciggie from the sound technician. Thirty
minutes later I was on stage and happily honking away with the help of a new,
completely effective, albeit very sticky register key pad.
