I would not want the moisture from the swab in direct contact with my key
work. Springs rust over time, and I'd hate to speed this process.

I also would not want the moisture in direct contact with the wood.

BUT... Humidifying the *case* is important in a dry climate! (And snowy
winters qualify.)

So leaving the damp swab in the case is fine.

AND orange peels are the best humidifier I have found. :) Again, I wouldn't
let them come in direct contact with the horn itself.
