I'm not familiar with Schmidt's Music, but I think that is a great plan, depending on the price...ESPECIALLY if you can't afford the full price up front. Check on the price in relation to places like Woodwind and Brasswind - www.wwandbw.com or Fredrick Weiner - www.weinermusic.com to see what prices (and payment plans they have. Always compare prices AFTER the finish of paying the instrument off, because interest or a payment fee can run the cost up higher at one place over another. F. Weiner has a 3 payment plan at no extra cost...1/2 down, 1/4 in 30 days, 1/4 (remainder) in 60 days (for example). If the paying over a year or more is the best bet for you, a local store will usually be your best bet, even though interest will probably be charged.

Do you intend to keep the clarinet? Are you not sure, so you were going to pay monthly to see if you wanted to keep the horn? If so DEFINITELY do a long term payment plan, as long as you have a good possibility of NOT keeping the horn. This will save you money, if you take the horn back in 2 or 3 months.

Hope that was a help.

By the way...I really *DON'T* secretly work for Fredrick Weiner. I merely have made most of my medium and large music purchases through them because of price, great service, and long time loyalty. I have made purchases from local music stores (like M & S Music in Mobile, AL and Forrests Music in Berkley, CA - both quite nice, and service is great, if you are in the area) and through Woodwind and Brasswind with good results. I am just really pleased with F. Weiner's service, plus the prices are great. I just like to plug a good company that doesn't screw me over when I come upon one (which is VERY rare.)

> What does everyone think about Schmidt Music's rental plan? I am using it right now, and think that it's a good deal ( you pay a certain amount every month and then when the amount of rent equals the retail price then it's yours to keep), but I wanted to hear some other opinions.
