:We had our first clarinet lessons today- I'm on a medium reed, and my
teacher
:advised us to switch to Vandoren 2 1/2's . I was wondering if at 7th grade
:level Vandoren 3's would make much of a difference in my playing? Also, is
:there a difference in difficulty between the two?
Yes, there is a difference, but you can't judge by what grade level you are
when to move up. Are you satisfied with the way your reed and horn sound?
Why not try a #3 and see how it is. If you like the #2.5 better, stick with
that.
I have been playing a #3 since 6th Grade (now 11th), and only recently moved
up to a #4 to help me build up strength, but I still prefer my #3.
