problems can come from mismatched bores.

You would never find a clarinet with mismatched serial numbers due to
replacement of a joint by the manufacturer. Common practice is to replace
the joint, but stamp the matching serial number on it.

I believe that the major manufacturers now replace rather than repair
cracked joints in order to save time. In the past year I've had 2
clarinets that were in warranty repaired by Clark Fobes in order to avoid
random joint replacement. I know Mark Charette got some individual
attention from B&H on a joint replacement, but I haven't been that lucky.
