Yo, listers--

Check out http://www.boosey.com/mi/na/francoisarticle.html. This is Mr.
Kloc's explanation of what you can do to your horn/barrel/mouthpiece to
affect your tuning--very helpful!

If you back up in the site, you will also get to see a nice picture of Mr.
Kloc performing clarinet surgery.

I do have a question for Mr. Kloc, on tuning--I'm sending it to the list as
well, as I am sure that there are many of us in the same boat.

I play a large-bore mouthpiece on a pair of standard mid-1970's R-13s. As
described in your article, the throat tones are a little flat, and the upper
clarion sharp. I have attempted to offset these tendencies with a
differently-bored barrel: in my case, a Charles Bay that is supposed to have
a Moennig bore (I think). Unfortunately, the sharp tendency in the clarion
is still present, and I spend some energy adjusting for it.

Short of having a repair person move the register keys closer to the
mouthpiece (like the Festival), is there another barrel you recommend that
has "a section smaller than the top of you upper joint bore?" I know that
Buffet markets replacement barrels with bores by both Hans Moennig and Guy
Chadash--would one of these help me out, and if so, which would have the
bore characteristics I'm looking for?

Once again, I'd like to thank Mr. Kloc (in advance here) for his efforts.
It's just an unbelievable terrific service that Mr. Kloc/Buffet offers.

kjf
