I also have a "drawer full of ligatures" including, BG, Rovner, Harrison, etc.

Each has it's own plusses and minuses. Each works differently with different
reeds. I also have a old (40 years +) Boosey and Hawkes metal ligature which
is excellent.

I find that for orchestral work, the BG works best for me. (This is the model
made of leather, with the one thumb screw, and the metal curvy plate that
holds the reed on.)

For projection, evenness of tone production, and tonguing, I prefer the
BG....just my humble opinion.

Interesting note: I have Rovner and BG ligatures for my bass clarinet as well.
The BG plays REALLY WELL....but....my wife who is a trained musician, and
whose musical opinion I really respect, says the tone quality produced while
using the BG doesnt should like a bass clarinet should. In blind tests, she
always prefers the Rovner.

On the Bb/A...she consistently picks the BG..........................and does
so instantly!

So go figure!
