Interesting that this should come up just now, as I'm getting ready to plunk
down serious $$$ for a Brannen-Cooper flute, which is arguably(along with
Haynes & Powell) the hot flute of the day...they make 440/442/444 flutes,
presumeably the correct way with tone holes actually relocated, not just
a shorter head joint, etc.

What is most interesting in terms of our discussion of 440 vs. 442 is that
when I looked around for a used B-C, I could find an occasional 442 pitched
flute, but ABSOLUTELY no 440 flutes...a call to B-C confirmed that they
still do produce 440 horns, so my conclusion on this one is that there must
be some flutists out there that buy 442, thinking this is the way to go,
but then they find out that 440 is really more common or required more than
they thought.

Just in case you wondered, I'm gonna order a 440 flute, as i don't wanna
'feed the beast' & help drive up pitch.
