After a long period of "lurking" - I often have trouble finding time to
keep
up reading the digest, let only post anything, and also (OK, I'll admit
it)
through shyness - I finally decided the time had come to break my
silence, only
to discover that the company mail system would refuse to send anything
to
sneezy! After some fruitless enquiries and experimentation I've now
abandoned
that route and re-subscribed via my Unix mail, which is less convenient,
but
it works.

I live and work in the UK, and have been playing clarinet since I was
11.
When I left school I joined the Royal Air Force as a musician and spent
the next five years playing in a military band. However, convinced that
I wasn't cut out to be a professional musician I left and retrained as a
computer programmer.
That was nearly thirty years ago, and I now work as a software engineer
developing networking products (but I still don't know how to sort out
e-mail!)

Since leaving the RAF I've done varying amounts of amateur playing, but
I had
practically given up until I moved house two years ago and found a wind
band
that was growing successfully, and which has now become an important
part of
my life. I'm actually practising nearly every day now. Thank goodness
for
tolerant neighbours (and tolerant family!).

Finally, thanks to everyone who runs and contributes to the Klarinet
list. I've acquired more "general knowledge" in the last few months
reading the digest than in the whole of my clarinet playing career, the
Internet is a wonderful thing.
