I actually bought one of those fancy new silver Vandoren ligatures (with
the multiple plates) and I am quite impressed. The major selling point
is that it tightens uniformly with pressure against the reed towards the
table of the mouthpiece rather than possibly pinching at the sides.

The design seems to be an improved Bonade inverted in concept.

I've been using it for several weeks and am having better luck with
reeds in general. (I was previously using a Bonade inverted and have
previously tried Rovner, Harrison, and Vandoren).

They are expensive (I paid $70 for mine), but at that price, most music
stores should allow you to try one out before purchase.

Before anyone flames me, I'm not advocating anyone go spend $70 for a
ligature. But I do think it is worth a look.
