Ah yes, ligatures. In an old Clarinet article, Harold Wright expounded on
the importance of ligatures. I paraphrase, but my memory says something
like "they're incredibly important . . . without one, your thumb gets real
tired holding the reed on!"
I have a drawer full of ligatures. They're comparatively cheap and easy to
collect. While one can spend up to $80 or even $100 for one, I always end
up using the same old Bonade (about fifteen bux discount).
If this is steep for you, try a Luyben--they're even cheaper, and won't ever
scratch your mouthpiece. I find that they have just about the same response
as the Rovners, for a lot less money.

Subject: [kl] ligatures?
I'm getting a new mouthpiece, and I've settle on the Vandoren 5RV Lyre.
What should I be looking for for a ligature? Any recommendations are
welcome. BTW, I use Vandoren V 12's and regulars, 3 1/2 - 4.
Thanks in advance.
