Replacing a swab just because it's dirty is wasteful. Silk, chamois cloth and
cotton swabs are hand-washable. Just soak the swab for a few minutes in
Woolite or some other hand-washing detergent, scrub the fabric against itself
a reasonable amount (some staining may remain; just scrub enough to get rid
of
the pond scum and the cooties), rinse it and hang it over the shower rod to
dry, or better yet, hang the swab in the sunlight, a great disinfectant.

The "dirt" color is usually (Wooden Clarinet) the varnish of the bore, not
dirt. Also when cleaning the Clarinet, have a piece of a paper towel (a
heavy duty "shop towel" works great) to dry, and clean the cork grease from
the sockets. The swab will stay clean for quite a long time that way.
