Subj: [kl] More clarinet .MUS and MIDI files

I have added von Weber's Concertino for Bb Clarinet and piano. I converted
this to Finale from a MIDI file I found months ago on the Web, but it needed
quite a bit of editing. I think that it is in pretty good shape now.

I ran across a curious work by Rimsky Korsakov some time ago. Canzonetta
and Tarantella for clarinet duo. I'm not particularly drawn to this piece;
it appears to be an exercise dashed off by the composer on the spur of the
moment. I fixed it up a bit to my liking, changing the harmony here and
there. The composer was either strung out when he did this one or wrote
it on the fly. The first four measures of
the Tarantella really needed some improvement, as did the last couple of
measures so I added a bit of Hollywood pizazz. In any case, I took the
blame below the standard credit to Nikolai for having initiated the effort.
There are still a couple of notes that ought to be changed, but nothing I've
tried seems to work very well. I've added the MIDI and .MUS files of these
as well to my page.

This Saturday evening we grind through the 1812 overture again at the
Irvine Amphitheatre with the Pacific Symphony. It's nice to be able to
raise the morale of those poor folks who are obligated to play another
Tchaikovsky Spectacular. When the motley crew from the Huntington Beach
Concert Band shows up to tap our feet at the back of the stage for 346
measures before competing with the cannons, the members of the orchestra
seem to brighten a little. It's always nice to bring a little joy into the
world. I promise this time not to drop my clarinet on a violin during
intermission like I did once before.

8-)

Happy playing, all.

Oliver
