Hi!

How can I check the pads so that I can be sure that's not where the
problem is?
I should say this is a small problem, I'm not even sure I should call
it a problem. E' just isn't as warm as I would want it to be, just as
the throat Bb. The throat Bb is a bit worse than E'. I asked only
about the E' since I am aware of the fact that throat Bb doesn't sound
good on most clarinets.
On my clarinet the alternate fingering of the throat Bb (A key plus
the third trill key) sounds better too. I try to use it whenever I can.

I play a Buffet Crampon Continentale. That BTW reminds me of another
question I have: can the Continentale be compared to any of today's
Buffet models, if so, to which one(s). The serial # indicates that
it's from 1973. What level instrument is this? Does anyone know?
I've played my Continentale now for about 1½ year and I like it (I
bought it from my teacher after borrowing it from him for a year :-)
