Pad problems can be hard to spot, Julian. If you have eliminated that
possibility with a light or pressure test, the next place to look is
probably the D hole. You didn't say what kind of clarinet you play, but
even if it's a pro model, there still could be some problem with the hole's
cleanness, its finish or possibly even its placement. Perhaps a good
clarinet repairer, if there's one in or around Uddevalla, could spot the
trouble and tell you whether it's curable. Or if you don't have an
experienced workman nearby, you could certainly post or ship the instrument
to someone in Stockholm who could do that.
