I don't know--I'm in the wind ensemble here at UTK & we meet for onw hour
every day, while last year we met for 2 hours three days/week and 1.5
hours the other two days (if I remember correctly!) It has been my
experience both in undergrad. school & here in grad school that orch.
meets for 2 hours 2 days/week.

We play much more technically demanding works in the wind ensemble, but
someone did say that you rely so much on your individual tone in the orch.
That DOES do a number on your chops. But, after an orch. rehearsal I feel
like I can't play anymore for the day (bad, bad!) After band, even when
we were going for 2 hours, I didn't feel as tired.

Maybe it is all of those SORRY strings!

Anyone ever played a piece by Donald Grantham (Univ. of Texas?) called
'Bum's Rush?' I am section leader for clarinets in our wind ensemble &
don't even know where to begin on this monster of a piece!
