Pick a lawyer in the buyer's town. The buyer and seller agree in writing that the
seller sends the instrument to the lawyer, who gives it to the buyer in exchange for
a certified check payable to the lawyer's trust account. After the pre-arranged
checkout period, the lawyer sends either the payment or the instrument back to the
seller.
Determine in the initial arrangements who pays the legal fees and freight charges.
I once sold a large used industrial locomotive in a similar manner.
