The Yamaha model 34 wood clarinet, in good mechanical shape, is an
excellent beginning clarinet. Many of my private students use them all
the way through high school. They play reasonably well in tune, and the
mechanism is good for an instrument of this level. Sounds like a good
purchase to me if the price is right.

I too like the YCL -34. The Wooden Buffet E-11 is now better then ever. Now
(newest model) it comes standard with silver keys, a metal thumbrest that is
height-adjustable, and has a ring for a neckstrap! I've seen it sell new for
$565. Retails for around $1000. Cracking of the E-11 for my students in the
Phila. area is a non-issue - it never happens.
