Most people will agree that students who learn at a younder age- ie under ten
- will have a small advantage over students. I've been reading music since I
was six. I've been playing clarinet since I was eight. Although I couldn't
reach the low E with my right pinky, I was still able to play the B flat just
fine. I've never tried an E flat clarinet, but at music camp everyone said
they were much harder than the B flat. If this is true, then it would seem
more logical to start playing on the B flat, since young children will quickly
lose interest in something that they can't play a lot more quickly than in
something that they can play.

<<Any ideas on how young a person can start learning clarinet? Is it a good
idea to <<start a child out on the Eb? or should a parent wait (assuming
there is sufficient <<interest on the child's part) until he or she can handle
a Bb?
