I appreciate Kelly Abraham wanting to direct us to some useful information.
However, that file downloaded as nearly 80 pages of aphabet soup. Having to
erase it isn't really a big deal; and I don't know how the rest of you feel
about this; but when an article is available on a web site, I would prefer not
to receive it as a gargantuan (and in this case unreadable) text file. Maybe
a better approach would be to offer to BCC it as a text file to the
comparatively few people with no web access who e-mail a request for it. But
there's also another, more serious issue: Internet piracy has become a major
problem for writers trying to protect our copyright ownership. Copying the
intellectual property of the author of that article and re-publishing it, by
transmitting it to the entire list, violated U. S. and international copyright
law, unless the author gave permission for this use.

On the subject of long attached files, copies of previous posts take up an
awful lot of that space. When it's necessary to quote someone in order to
reply, it's not all that much trouble to excerpt a line or two and then
address the mail to klarinet@-----.org, instead of hitting the "reply" button
that re-transmits the whole shebang. Another small and admittedly petty
matter: It's possible to avoid weird line breaks (leading to excessive
scrolling and eyestrain) in mail formatted on a word processor. I sent out
some horrible-looking e-mail when I first went online, until someone explained
how to prevent the e-mail process from inserting unwanted hard breaks: Just
save the file as ASCII Delimited Text (instead of plain ASCII Text) before
moving it from the word processor to the e-mail transmitter.

Thanks!

Lelia
