I've been getting awfully frustrated with the inconsistencies of the
Vandoren V12 reeds! So much that I am going to try the Rico grand
concert select thick blank reeds (what a mouthful).

Are these particular Rico reeds softer than Vandoren V12's? I use the
Vandorens at 3 right now so about what strength should I order for
these?

Well, if I don't like these Rico's I'll go back to the Vandoren and try
to learn some more reed adjustment techniques to salvage some of the
"bad" ones in the box.

And, alluding to an earlier post, what are some of the reed break-in
techniques that you use?
