Tape of any type is not a good idea for cork bumpers. Here is the
reason. The bumpers are constantly absorbing shocks. And no matter how
careful you are going to ocassionaly have the pads move lateraly across
the body. This dragging and constant absorbment of shocks is one of the
main reason the bumpers fall off. The other main reason is changes in
moisture, temperature and humidity which break down the adhesiveness of
the cement.
Tape has less adhesiveness in the long run then cement. If you dont
believe me take some cement and glue a pie of paer to the wall. Only
glue the top of the paper. Then attach a second piece of paper to the
wall twith double sided tape. GO 18 months into he futur and see which
one is stll stuck to the wall.
The double sided tape will require two bonds. The tape to the key and
the tape to the cork. This double she chances of the cork falling off.
If either bond breaks the cork needs to be reattached.
The tape is also much more suseptible to changes in moisture and
temperature.
The tape is not naturally adhesive. The adhesive has to be applied to
the tape. Then the tape is rolled onto itself. To use the tape you
have to unroll it and break the adhesive. The tape is still adhesive yet
the adhesiveness of it has been deteriated.
Also tape is much more effective when there is more of it. Manufacturing
defect and the fact that when you unroll the tape certain spots may loos
more adhesive then other spots. When attaching cork bumpers, you are
working with a veryu small surface area. I know from my own experience
as a traing repair technician, Its difficult enough for inexperienced
persons to get the really small bumpers to stay attached even with
contact cement.
It is better to use a good contact cement with the cork.
YOu are asking for trouble using taoe.

Matt
