Congratulations.

As you move through life, you will find that it is necessary to pay
attention to the politics of the situation. That's life whether we like it
or not.

It could be that the judge wanted to make sure that he did not say anything
that could be construed as a promise so just made a generally negative
statement.

As for the subject of vibrato on the clarinet, it will always be a topic of
great debate. To me the clarinet and French horns have such a beautiful
sound that vibrato is unnecessary (rather like gilding the lily). On the
other hand, the violin, oboe and sax need all the help they can get and the
flute can sound rather cold without it. However I would not object to it
unless the player went so far as to be obnoxious with it.

As a performer, one needs to please the audience to which they are playing.
If that audience likes vibrato, use it for them. If another audience
doesn't like it, don't use it for them. That's all there is to it.
