Well the purists might say you don't use vibrato on French horn but
those are probably the same who say you don't use it on clarinet. Sorry
for that picky detail...

My opinion is that if used properly, vibrato can sound beautiful on
clarinet (and french horn, for that matter). As I am still very young
and inexperienced I have not had this type of incident (although several
similar problems) before so I will be interested to hear (read) what the
rest of the list has to say.
