Another thing you should check is the rings. How far above the tone
holes are they?
If you lower rings are higher then your upper ones you may
unconsciously be putting extra pressure on the lower rings to
compensate. Because you see if the are too high then the bridge
mechasims will engae and lose the upper rings before the lower rings
have closed the top bad and you have to push down a little more to close
the pad. Believe me it is possible to do this with out realizing it. I
have been working ain a repair shop for two weeks and i find myself
doing things like this all the time and not realizing it. If this is
the problem torquing the lower rings down will help stop wear. Becasue
the extra pressure tou place on the lower rings which is the bottom part
of the bridge that hits the cork will force the cork to compress to much
and wear out faster.
YOu may want to also check the spring tesion on th eupper rings. If the
tension is a little extrem it may be pusing the bridge cork down harder
then necessary. Causing the cork to wear out faster.
The cork will always wear out but two or three months does seem extremly
fast.
Another quick solution is this but be extremly careful and delicate
hold the upper key joint in your left hand without the lower joint
attached. Hold the rings closwed tightly. The carefully, extremely
CAREFULLY apply pressure to the bridge to push it down slightly. YOU
only need to push it down a mm or two to achieve the results neccary for
the brigde to function to properly.
