Concerining tonguing on bass horns...slap tonguing isn't the only way to
articulate. I play nearly everything on the contrabass and contralto
clarinets with tip to tip method. When I shift into the altissimo (ie,
showing off for no real good reason), I'll use a tiny bit more pressure,
but no slap tonguing. I have met a rare few slap tonguing bassists,
though. Most, however, I've found use anchor tonguing (most common) or
tip to tip, as I do (a little rarer).
