Hi there!!!

Okdokies: here's my explanation

I was told it was the "new"bass.... It was new, of course but just not the
new model.

I had emailed many of the companies that would be displaying their wares at
the conference and explained to them all that I was in the market for a new
bass, (low C model) and that if they brought any along, I would like to try
them. *The ONLY store that ever bothered to reply to me was International
(lisa Argiris), by the way.* You would think other stores would jump at
the chance to sell a big-ticket item like that, but hey I guess I must be
wrong :)

Lisa was very nice, she brought along 5 bases for me to try out. Now, I
didn't realize there was a new, redesigned bass out on the market....when I
found out, I wanted to try it out....I asked Lisa and she said it was the
new bass (it is new, just not THE new one). Well, after trying them out, I
really liked one of them, so I bought it. Yeah, it's not THE new one, but
I think it's pretty darn great!!!

BUT HERE'S AN IMPORTANT DISCUSSION TOPIC:
Soon though I think I'm going to have to book an appointment (with Brannen)
to have a look at it. It's unfortunate that Buffet doesn' t make standard
on their instruments (esp. a Prestige) some things that could save us
clarinet players $$$$ in adjustments.
SUCH AS: why have so much cork on instruments!!!!!! Hey guys, this is the
20th century, you think we would have progressed beyond using 18th
materials!!!! Brannen worked MIRACLES, on my A and Bb clarinets. In
many cases, he used teflon etc... to get rid of cork between joint
completely! That's great: cork wears down, gets compressed and breaks!
My A and Bb mechanisms are now very efficient, and very quiet!! Why is
there cork all over my new bass!!!!!!!! HMMMMMM?????? With an instrument
like a bass, that has so many levers, contact points etc. where cork is
required, why not use some great space-age material to begin with......why
send me on a 5hr trip to Chicago, to pay $$$$, and a hotel when this
should be done by Buffet to begin with.!!!

So there, now you have it! I love my bass, I love the sound!! It's a
gorgeous instrument, I'm babying it like I've never done before, but my
beef is with the people who build the darn things!
p.s. Francois Kloc was GREAT at the conference. He looked over the
instrument for me, did some minor adjustments, wonderful! Merci encore,
Francois! Ton aide est tres bien appreciƩe!
