It's good to have you back. ^_-

As for an alternative to long tones, try the Excersizes of Mechanism on
page 16 of the Klose' Celebrated Method. Play them once at q.=72, then
take the repeat, but play at q.@-----. Slur from the beginning to the
end (ie, tongue only the first note). This has the same stabilizing
effect of long tones, but allows you to develop technique in your fingers
as well. Furthermore, start on number one, but as soon as you get to one
that crosses the break, skip it - play all of the excersizes that stay
below the break first (perfect them!), then proceed to the ones that do
cross the break, except Nos. 34, 35, 36, and 37. Save those for last.

By this time, your embouchure should be pretty stinkin' firm. Proceed to
34, then 35, until you reach 37. When you can play through 37 at the
noted tempos without moving your embouchure or any articulating other than
the first note, you should be ready to take on Dave Shifrin in a playing
contest. ^_^

(I don't guarantee victory, though.)

No squeeks, squaks, or growls, either. When the excersizes are notated in
16ths instead of 8ths, don't play them at q.@-----.
ACK!

Oh yeah, it's good to have you back, too. ^_^
