I spent quite a bit of time at the B&H Booth playing the new bass
clarinet. It is heads and tails above the last model....in terms of
pitch. The tone is slightly more "round", and the mechanism has some
changes that contribute to less adjustment problems. Specificially, the
Low Db is no longer sharp - it is actually slighly low (a good thing), the
G on the top of the staff is now in tune rather than flat, and the 12th
partials have retained their good pitch. Especially nice is the fact that
Buffet is not charging any additional $ for the new model. Any retailer
that raises the price of the new Buffet because of it being a new model is
simply capitalizing on the opportunity to make additional $. This may
help when trying to decide between dealers.
