I was faced with a similar dilemma when I bought my R-13. I was looking at the
E12, which was half the price of the R-13. However, when I thought about the
fact that I would have this clarinet for a long time, I felt that it was better to take
the plunge. If the R-13 is what you want then thats what you should purchase.
I don't know what the price difference is in your situation. You can get R-13's for
approximately $1700.00. I have seen the E-13 priced $1400.00. Over a long
period of time I don't think the price difference should be the determining factor.
I personally have always steered away from any dealer who tries to pressure me
into a purchase of this magnitude. He wants the sale and you want a clarinet that
you will be happy with. If he does not respect that then go somewhere else.
