The E series is a very good beginner line with both plastic and grenadilla
clarinets. What you have stated is close to true- the E13 and R13 are
similar, but there are a few minor differences. The one that comes to
mind first is simply the quality of the wood. If you baby the clarinet,
however, you can make it last as long as your usual, durable (although
some of us doubt it - cracking discussion) R13.

The E-13 is really an E-12 with a bore closer to the bore of the R13.
They aren't exactly the same though (I think). I would compare the E13 to
the Infinitie/Sonata of the LeBlancs, myself. It is a good horn, and is
very comparable to an R13, but it is still a student horn. Just a very
very very fine one. ^_^

I think there are also some minor tuning differences - the upper chalameau
was a little sharper on the E13 I played compared to the R13s that I've
played.
