My R-13 Bb is 93-94 vintage, and it's never cracked. I was told by a
non-clarinettist that I should play it in gradually to avoid cracking, but I
took no notice - mainly because my teacher told me the opposite! - and I've
never had any problems. None of the other R-13 players that I've talked to
here have had any problems either, even though last summer was incredibly
hot and dry.
